Scott Adams, Psy.D.

Dr. Scott Adams joined Green House Group in June, 2018.  He completed his Psy.D. at Indiana State University in 2002; he was a pre-doctoral intern at the Denver Veteran’s Administration Medical Center, and completed a post-doctoral fellowship through the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.  He has taught in university settings, and was in private practice for 10 years in Colorado before joining the Green House Group.

Scott provides individual therapy for people ranging in age from 18 through older adulthood. He treats people in the midst of transitions and challenges such as divorce or medical illness, as well as those struggling with depression, anxiety, psychosis, or trauma.  He has a particular interest in working with the elderly, and with military veterans including those diagnosed with combat-related PTSD.   He also conducts intellectual and personality assessments of adults.

His approach to psychotherapy is both psychodynamic and cognitive.  One core aspect of his approach is called Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT holds that what and how we think causes our emotions and behaviors. Thoughts and feelings form a pattern that can be identified and, when necessary, changed.  He combines CBT with an understanding that patterns of thinking, feeling, and acting develop in the context of our relationships with others. The life experiences we have with parents, siblings, friends, and others strongly influence what we think and why, as well as our overall satisfaction with our lives.  Understanding how your relationships have impacted your life and thinking is likely to be an important part of the change process.

Scott's goal is to help people remove barriers to their happiness and satisfaction with life.
